A-Team (OFS)

Explanation
The A-Team, also known as the 'Phakathis' was a vigilante group set up and headed by a well-known local councillor in the Thabong area of Welkom to counter the activities of the UDF primarily, and in a smaller measure, the ANC. The A-Team carried out a reign of terror in several areas of the province, particularly in Thabong and Parys, under the guise of 'maintaining order'. In at least one case, the A-Team is alleged to have been supported by police and municipal structures.

MR BELLINGHAN: Mr Chairman, I've been involved in various legal forums in the time since I left the South African Police. In respect of the Amnesty Committee, this is my fourth legal team. I've had changes for various reasons which I don't want to go into over here. It's entirely possible that ...
I then deal with the question of the decorations and I state that Major Williamson, his immediate superior office Brigadier Goosen and the remaining members of their team which took part in the bomb blast at the London offices of the ANC, all received decorations for the role which each of them ...
MR PRETORIUS: That is correct. That would be the exception to the rule, Chairperson, as I have already stated. If I can recall correctly Mr Coetzee made use of my members on a regular basis. The reason for that is because Mr Coetzee and I worked together for several years in Soweto and when he ...
CHAIRPERSON: Mr Coetser, just to help you out here. I think this applicant has been represented by a team that must rank with one of the more experienced amnesty application teams and if there's at the end of the day a possibility that you're going to have to argue that there was an intervening ...
MR RAUTENBACH: You testified, and I'll use your statement, you indicated - I'm just looking for the correct paragraph, you refer to the team spirit between the government and the security branch and the so-called blind loyalty between the security branch and the government. As far as that is ...

DR RANDERA: General, just one last question, and this, it relates to this issue of the only person who had knowledge of what was going on within the front companies was Dr Basson. Now during this hearing we've had very eminent scientists coming and speaking, the very people who were actually - Dr ...
ADV SIGODI: And were you part of the - I mean from your evidence I understand that you were part of the team that was investigating Mr Bhila?

MR BIZOS: Now, were you a member of the investigation team in relation to the murder of Mr Hani in a full-time capacity, or had you been called in merely for the purposes of obtaining a statement from Mrs Derby-Lewis?
MR NOOSI: Then I think we are talking - I mean there are two incidents that you are talking about. I'm talking about that particular one, I don't know about that one but I mentioned to you that I was part of the interrogation team and I could have participated in interrogation sessions in the ...
MR POWE: I am otherwise part of Mr Currin's team, so in that context I am involved in other matters.
MS LOONAT: Did Const Ndaba work with you in your team, or where does he fit into the picture?
GEN SHOKE: I think as soldiers or as guerillas we worked as a team. We attacked the police station.
MR VAN ECK: He stated that at that stage you were the Captain of the first team.
MR POLLOCK: No, they used to call us the A Team.
As his second in command, he chose Major Craig Williamson, a natural choice, because of his experience and background. Members of the Task Team ...
MR RAMAWELE: I am sorry, Madam Chair, I will come straight to that. Mr Nofomela, in your written application which is before the Committee, you say that you participated in a team which comprised of Maj de Kock, Lt van Dyk, Aubrey Mngadi, Warrant Officer Koole and one Christopher Mogobo. Today ...
MR LOOTS: Chairperson, a large quantity of documents was brought back by each team, sealed in plastic bags and this was transported by helicopter.
