Explanation
a popular national rebellion of both trained soldiers and ordinary civilians during the mid- to late 80s. The strategy, promoted by the ANC, involved integrating armed MK combatants with mass organisations inside South African townships, and rendering the townships ungovernable through attacks on the security forces and other representatives of the state.

A politically non-partisan resident of Gamalakhe, KwaZulu, near Port Shepstone, Natal who was shot and injured in an attack on his home by IFP supporters on 17 October 1993. He was allegedly accused of accommodating people who had attacked an IFP leader. His wife was killed in the attack.
