Special Report Transcript Episode 16, Section 1, Time 00:20South Africa’s political leadership, the Truth Commission and the truth. The three met this past week and the truth was not always the winner. The nation expected of the political parties to explain the nature of the vicious conflict of the past decades. How did it happen that one group of South Africans devised a system against fellow citizens so evil that the international community declared it a crime against humanity? We wanted to hear the motivations behind strategies of violence and counter-violence. We wanted to understand the political structures and we wanted to know about accountability. The leaders who appeared before the Truth Commission took us back into our divided history to explain why today our nation needs a Commission for truth and reconciliation. Perhaps a tour through our past is the only way to understand ourselves. Notes: Max du Preez References: there are no references for this transcript |
