Special Report Transcript Episode 22, Section 4, Time 26:09It will certainly be a welcome change to hear a version of the past from perpetrators rather than victims. And we’re going to have a good dose of it. Apart from the secretive six policemen convicted, Trust Feed killer Brian Mitchell will tell his story and name names in two weeks’ time. The week after that the military generals will appear before the Truth Commission and then former Vlakplaas commander Dirk Coetzee will stand before the Amnesty Committee. In the mean time, former minister of police, Adriaan Vlok and several policemen including the former commissioners will be receiving subpoena’s to go and talk to the Truth Commission. But who are the six policemen who are about to spill the beans? The Truth Commission gave an undertaking not to release the six now, but they are among these 22 former and serving policemen. On the 21st of June this year, these men’s lawyer sent this letter to Desmond Tutu saying they intended to apply for amnesty. The letter was never followed up. Many of the men were Vlakplaas members and several have already been linked to gross human rights violations like Brigadier WAL du Toit, and Major Marthinus Ras, and former Vlakplaas top man, Jack Cronje. The letter stated that the men were supported by former commissioners Johan van der Merwe, Johan Coetzee and Mike Geldenhuys. It also includes the names of generals Basie Smit, Krappies Engelbrecht and Johan le Roux. All three were implicated by Eugene de Kock in his murder trial and they’re about to be subpoenaed by the Truth Commission. Many of the violent acts for which the men wanted amnesty have been exposed by De Kock. It includes the bombings of Khotso house, JG Strijdom Hospital, a Cape Town Community Centre and three power stations, the murder of three fellow policemen and the death of the PEBCO three of Port Elizabeth. Many of these acts of terror were blamed on the ANC. Notes: Max du Preez ; Letter to Chairperson, listing 22 senior policemen.
