Special Report Transcript Episode 33, Section 1, Time 00:20Use the word ‘dompas’ today and most children and young people would not understand what you are talking about; yet it was a word feared by their parents and grandparents for many decades. Tonight we look back on this manifestation of one of the worst examples of social engineering in history. But first we turn our attention to the dramatic confessions of security policemen whose applications for amnesty were made public this week. Perhaps I should not say dramatic, because the Truth Commission Special Report has in previous programmes connected all these men to the killings of activists like Steve Biko, Siphiwo Mtimkulu, Sizwe Kondile, the Pebco Three or the Cradock Four. Gideon Niewoudt, Nick van Rensburg, Harold Snyman, Gerhardus Lotz, Daantjie Siebert, Ruben Marx and Eric Taylor. Perhaps the dramatic part of this story is the amazing web of lies the state has spun over many years around these events, in most cases abusing the legal system in doing so.
