A church leader and a patron of the UDF who was harassed by the Witwatersrand Security Branch between 1982 and 1986. Two Witwatersrand Security Branch operatives were granted amnesty for this harassment, while another Security Branch operative based at Security Branch Headquarters was granted amnesty for the abusive humiliation of Dr Boesak during his detention in 1985 (AC/2001/0184 and AC/1999/0029).

Of course the police will be there in force to … us. We’d have asked them not to be there because we’d have said we are perfectly willing and capable and determined to have a peaceful, non violent, disciplined, organized demonstration.
On the 3rd of August 1985 UDF leader Allan Boesak announced plans for a march on Pollsmoor Prison. Among those at its head would be many of Cape Town’s religious leaders.
