Description
Was tortured and kept in isolation for almost a year at Norwood police station, Johannesburg, after his arrest in February 1989 for killing a member of the Mandela United Football Club (MUFC). Club members had attacked Mr Chili and others for refusing to join the MUFC. In the process of defending themselves, an MUFC member was killed. Mr Chili was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment.

Winnie’s football club was now falling into disrepute, nevertheless she continued recruiting. When one youth, Sibusiso Chili, refused to join a fight broke out and a football club member Maxwell Modondo was killed. Winnie demanded revenge. Katiza Cebekhulu heard her give the order.
