He had his house burnt down by Inkatha supporters, allegedly assisted by members of the SAP, in Umbumbulu, KwaZulu, near Durban, on 17 April 1994 in political conflict in the area in the run-up to the April 1994 elections. Mr Hlongwa said he was targeted because they wanted him to be a ‘spy’. He was forced to flee the area.
