Was severely beaten by members of the SAP after his arrest in KwaGuga, near Witbank, Transvaal, in August 1985. During March 1986, his house was destroyed in an explosion. In 1986 Mr Mashego was detained twice, the second time he was held in solitary confinement for six months. On October 29, 1998 Mr Mashego was again arrested and assaulted by members of the Security Police based in Witbank.
