Was arrested, beaten and charged, with 25 others, with the crowd killing of a Municipal Policeman in Paballelo, Upington, Cape, on 13 November 1985. One of the Upington 26, he was convicted and sentenced to death, along with 13 others. He spent two years on death row before the death sentence was overturned on appeal in 1991.
