Seven TDF soldiers were killed and some 33 wounded. Four of the coup conspirators were granted amnesty. Six Vlakplaas operatives were granted amnesty for providing arms for the attempted coup. The police alleged that they arrested him at New Brighton railway station as he was preparing to leave Port Elizabeth, but released him shortly afterwards.
