Was severely lashed at a ‘people’s court’ under the command of an officer of the self defence unit (SDU) in Umgababa, KwaZulu, near Durban, on 1 July 1993. Another young man was beaten to death that day in the same incident. One ANC SDU member was granted amnesty for the assault, but not for the killing (AC/2000/033).
