Was shot dead at a bus stop in Zeerust, Bophuthatswana, in July 1991. Mr Rantao’s home had been burnt down two weeks before. The attacks occurred during intense conflict between members of the community and the Bophuthatswana government. Mr Rantao was targeted because he supported President Mangope.
