Was shot and injured by members of the Railway Police in Athlone, Cape Town, on 15 October 1985, in the Trojan Horse incident, Cape Town. Several weeks later Ghalieb was arrested at school, severely beaten at the Manenberg police station, and detained for several months. See Trojan Horse incident (Cape Town).
