A-Team (Chesterville, Durban)

Explanation
The Chesterville A-Team, a state-sponsored vigilante group composed of Inkatha supporters, was set up by the Security Branch in 1985 in Chesterville, Durban, to counter the activities of the UDF, COSAS and other civic organisations in the area. Political tensions between UDF supporters and members of the Chesterville A-Team frequently resulted in attacks against UDF and ANC supporters.

During September 1996 Loots was contacted by Van Vuuren who told him that it was alleged by the Attorney-General's investigating team that Motasi was killed because he had instituted a civil claim against the Minister of police. He never before this had heard of such a civil claim. He does not ...
He has asked me to put on record that his prepared to meet the applicants as well as their co-ordinator or leader, Mr Duma Nkosi. A meeting has been scheduled between Mr Duma Nkosi, the applicants and their legal team.
MR CORNELIUS: Yes. But I think that clears the situation up. This is purely I understand from my instructions, after the Attorney-General's Special Investigations Team, alleged that he was kidnapped, that this application was drawn by my client. I will leave it at that for what it is worth, Mr ...
MR HATTINGH: You also made a statement to the Attorney-General and his investigating team, is that correct?
MR BRACHER: But you asking other people to go out and plant bombs, wouldn't you expect the leadership to say: "We have already had a success. You are one of a great team here"?
ADV GCABASHE: Within your Section, Mandela Section, how many members were there in your team, in the SDU that you controlled?
So as our Chairperson has said in the previous cases, our investigative team has visited the Upington police station to look for the relevant documents and have been informed that all the records for the period 1985 to 1993 have been destroyed, but we will be following this up. I would like to ...
ADV SANDI: Thank you for your evidence, Sir, because it is clear that you yourself investigated as well. After you have finished, there are men, we have an Investigative Team. We request that you give all the evidence that you can about the man who was a member of the ADM from Port Elizabeth so ...
MS IRISH: I mean we would be happy to co-operate with the investigation team in following up whatever witnesses are needed as a result of the report.
During 1990 the Applicant received a cache of arms from his commander Eugene de Kock together with a number of his colleagues.  They were told to conceal the arms for possible further use in the event of future Nuremberg trials.  He transported the arms to his house but after his arrest in ...
During his detention Walus was at first not prepared to give any statements to the police. After prolonged interrogation and due to the fact that he was given alcohol by the police, he started co-operating with them. He was also misled into believing that some members of the interrogation team ...
ADV DU PLESSIS: There’s a few aspects that I just want to clear up. The purpose of the or rather let me put it differently, what Captain Venter and his team were told regarding their involvement, were you present? Do you have any knowledge of it?
CHAIRPERSON: Thank you Mr Visser. Mr Mapoma, may I just confirm that I believe you are part of the team that is representing the victims?
MR SCHOON: They were members of the investigative team of which I was the head at that stage. The latter mentioned persons later reported that two terrorists had been confronted near Zeerust and that one had been shot dead and the other captured. They brought the arrestee with to Pretoria.
MR SIBANYONI: The impression I’ve got when I read the applicants is that they surprised the occupants of the house. But when one reads the report apparently coming from Lawrence, is that he was working in conjunction with the team. How did you understand the operation? How was it conducted?
MR PULE: I would explain it this way, although I will deviate from this point. For example when you play soccer, playing for a first division team and then you are recruited by another team in the first division, when you arrive at that team, that does not mean because you come from another team, ...
MR ROUX: And did you also know, upon the second occasion, what was aimed at by Hechter and the rest of his team?
CHAIRPERSON: Thank you Chris. I just want to say at this stage that when the idea of bringing on journalists evolved, we then ateamed, the team that was planning for this hearing, I consulted with a few journalists, I think it was about six journalists from whom I asked their opinion of whom we ...
