Her house was looted and set alight during intense political violence in Woodyglen, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu, near Durban, on 11 February 1990. This coincided with the release of Nelson Mandela from prison. Ten people were killed in the fighting which lasted for a week. A former IFP member was granted amnesty (AC/1999/0332).
