Was punched in the face in Worcester, Cape, in May 1985, after attending a mass meeting at her school. During interrogation at the police station, a policeman attempted to beat her. She retaliated by breaking his spectacles and was charged with public violence and assaulting a policeman. Ms Jooste was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, which was suspended for five years.
