Was assaulted by a member of the Special Branch when he was detained in Ramatlabama, Bophuthatswana, near the Botswana border on 30 November 1975 while trying to leave the country. He was transferred to John Vorster Square where he was beaten during interrogation. He was finally released in April 1976.
