Was tortured by named members of the SAP while in detention at Actonville police station, Benoni. He was arrested after a 1986 May Day rally in Wattville, Benoni, Transvaal, when a police informer pointed him out. He was charged with murder and sentenced to two years` imprisonment. He survived on a disability grant until 1995.
