She suffered severe injuries at her home in Diepkloof, Soweto, Johannesburg, on 21 April 1993, when assaulted by a crowd of residents, ANC and ANCYL members. The attack had been directed against her father who was accused of giving information to the police. Her father and brother were killed and set alight and two other family members were assaulted. Six ANCYL members were granted amnesty (AC/2001/127).
