He had his home at Nhlangenyoka, KwaZulu, near Mtunzini, Natal, set on fire on 23 April 1994 during political conflict between ANC and IFP supporters in the run-up to the April 1994 elections. The family were asleep when their home was attacked. They managed to escape, but the rondavels were completely destroyed.
