She had her house at Lindelani, near KwaMashu, Durban, vandalised by Inkatha supporters on 7 December 1989. At the time, Lindelani residents were being forced to make monthly contributions to Inkatha and pay community levies. Those who did not pay were either forced to leave the area or had their houses set alight.
