Was arrested in Robertson, Cape, on 20 November 1985, and beaten by members of the SAP. After spending three months in custody, public violence charges against him were withdrawn due to lack of evidence. He was again detained on 19 June 1986 and held under emergency regulations for three months. See police brutality.
