She died when her home Atteridgeville, Pretoria, was bombed by a covert unit of the Northern Transvaal Security Branch on 5 June 1986. The attack was aimed at Ms Masuku`s son, a youth activist. Two Northern Transvaal Security Branch operatives and a member of a SAP Special Investigation Unit were granted amnesty (AC/2001/027).
