Was shot in the face with pellets in Tembisa, Transvaal, on 4 August 1993 by members of the SAP after an incident where a white Cressida without number plates opened fire on residents. Youths gathered to protect the community and Godfrey was shot in a subsequent clash between youths and police. He has lost the sight in his right eye as a result of the shooting.
