Was detained in Umtata, Transkei, on 17 February 1987, in connection with the activities of her brother, an MK operative. Ms Matoti was severely tortured and sexually assaulted by members of the Transkei Security Branch. Two days after her detention, she was admitted to hospital, where she spent seven months. One Transkei Security Branch operative was granted amnesty for torture (AC/2000/076).
