Was sprayed with a chemical that made her choke and was severely beaten by alleged members of the SAP in Nkomazi, Komatipoort, Transvaal, on 13 April 1990 looking for information about the whereabouts of an arms cache. Police suspected her late husband who had returned from exile and was allegedly shot by police, would have told her the whereabouts of the arms cache.
