Was severely beaten with sjamboks and batons by members of the SAP on 8 March 1986 on the Dennilton road towards Kgobokwane, KwaNdebele, after attending a funeral during conflict around incorporation into KwaNdebele. Mr Mothoa had become an active UDF supporter after resigning from the police. KwaNdebele independence was cancelled in August 1986 because of Moutse resistance.
