Was shot and seriously injured by Inkatha supporters at his home in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, on 4 August 1987. The perpetrators claimed to be bringing news of his two sons, UDF supporters, who had refused to renounce their organisation and had fled the area. In February that year a named Inkatha supporter and others had demanded that Mr Ngcobo beat up his sons because of their UDF affliation.
