A student activist who was detained several times in Grahamstown, Cape, prior to 1978, when he was again detained and beaten by police. Mr Nkayi charged the police for assault and received an out of court settlement. He was charged and sentenced to two and a half years’ imprisonment on Robben Island, Cape Town.
