He died when he was shot and then set alight by members of the ‘Zim-Zim’ faction of the Khutsong Youth Congress (KYC) assisted by the police in Khutsong, Carletonville, Transvaal, on 26 February 1991. The incident took place following a split in the KYC. At least 17 people were killed in Khutsong between 1989 and 1991 before a peace pact took effect in May 1991.
