RATHEBE, Betty Johanna

Description
Was shot dead in Soweto, Johannesburg, on 23 June 1977 by alleged members of the SAP. Ms Rathebe was shot after she heard gunshots and ran out of the house to look for her brother. Students had organised a protest march to John Vorster Square on that day and there was a strong police presence in the area. In 1984 her father was killed under similar circumstances.
