Was severely burnt on 6 June 1988 when a petrol-bomb exploded on the bus in which he was travelling in Matshana, KwaZulu, near Empangeni, Natal. COSATU members were allegedly responsible for the explosion, which occurred during a national stayaway. One person was killed and five others injured in the explosion.
