Was severely beaten by members of the Bophuthatswana Police who prevented people from attending a rally on the day of Nelson Mandela’s release in Hammanskraal, Transvaal, in February 1990. Ms Thebe was five months pregnant and on her way to the clinic for a check-up. She lost her baby at seven months.
