A SAYCO member who was shot and injured by community councillors in Crossroads, Cape Town, on 23 December 1989, during a youth march past the municipal offices. There were numerous deaths and injuries in December 1989 when Jeffrey Nongwe, a subordinate of conservative Crossroads mayor Johnson Ngxobongwana, sought to break away with his supporters and join the ANC.
