Her home was burnt down by Inkatha supporters on 2 December 1988 at Trust Feeds, New Hanover, near Pietermaritzburg. Members of the SAP and the Riot Unit arrested known UDF supporters on 2 December 1988 and withdrew their presence from the area in preparation for the Trust Feeds massacre which took place on 3 December 1988. At the time of the attack, there was no policing presence in the area, leaving UDF-supporting families particularly vulnerable to attack. See Trust Feeds massacre.
